Aron Lee Ralston was an American mountain climber who became famous in May 2003 when he was forced to amputate his right arm down with a dull knife to free himself after his arm became trapped by a boulder. great he just took 300ml of water and crude equipment. Ralston documented his experiences in a book titled Between Rock and Hard Place.
Ralston, a student of mechanical engineering and French at Carnegie Mellon University, is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. At Carnegie Mellon, he served as Assistant Resident, study abroad, and an active intramural sports participant. He left his job as a mechanical engineer with Intel in 2002 climbed all of Colorado's "fourteeners," or peaks over 14,000 feet high. While he was in a canyoneering trip in Blue John Canyon (near Moab, Utah), boulder fell and pinned his right arm, crushing it. After five days trying to lift and break the stone, a dehydrated and delirious Ralston bowed his arm against chockstone and fractures of the radius and ulna. Using a blunt knife in a versatile tool, he cut the soft tissue around the break. He then used pliers to tear at the tendon tool harder Though he did not name which brand (other than to say it was not Leatherman), he described it as "what you get. If you buy a $ 15 flashlight and got a multi-use tool-free" after Ralston's. rescued, his arm was retrieved by park authorities and removed from under the rock. It was cremated and given to Ralston. He went back to the stone and leave the ashes there.
